Think practically about your new kitchen!

Think practically about your new kitchen!

Here at Seymour Kitchens, we understand that starting the process of getting a new kitchen can feel like a daunting prospect. As the heart of the home, with so many functions that it is required to do, it is understandable that the design that you go for is right for you and your family. And given that getting a kitchen redone is often the most expensive room to renovate in a house, ensuring it has longevity is also high on the list of all of our clients.

So, where to start? At Seymour Kitchens, we believe the first step is to think practically and make decisions based on how you want your kitchen to function. For example, do you have a large array of kitchen appliances that need homes? Do you buy a lot of “pantry” food and therefore larder space is important? Do you have a young family who are prone to spillages where a wipe-clean worksurface would be beneficial? Do you host regular dinner parties and would benefit from a smart oven that helps you take control of all your cooking? As you can see, there are many things to consider before even thinking about the cabinet colour choice!

We’ve put together a few handy practicality bullet points to think about when you begin the process of designing your new kitchen. If you want get started, contact us on 01483 573 989 or email We look forward to hearing from you.

How much stuff do you have?

Ample storage makes your kitchen feel uncluttered and fresh. Carefully consider what you own that needs to be kept in cupboard. For large awkward appliances that do not tend to fit in standard cupboard doors, there are options such as bifold cabinet doors that give much easier access. The units can also be fitted to the height of your ceiling, meaning you make the most of all your space available.

Kitchen seating options

Most of our customers, whatever their size of kitchen want to incorporate a comfortable, functional seating area to dine, socialise or work. From snug booth tables with benches, to high top island chairs, there’s lots of different options which work with kitchens of all sizes and styles.

Worktop material

Kitchen worktops take the brunt of the work in a kitchen. Firstly, they must enhance the beauty of the kitchen, and secondly and more importantly be able to handle the culinary tasks that is gets used for, from relaxed family suppers to dinner parties. There are a vast number of options to pick from a style point of view, but we urge you to think practically about this decision too!
