CONTEMPORARY
Words like DESIGNER or MODERN are often used to describe the look of a kitchen that we would term CONTEMPORARY. The essential elements of a CONTEMPORARY kitchen are the exclusion of extraneous detail, clean and sharp lines, flat panels, straight corners and smooth finishes. The latest, high-tech equipment, such as induction hobs and built-in coffee machines, and flamboyant fittings like concealed lighting and architectural taps work well in such kitchens. It is a look that is often associated with Italian designers and the Scandinavian countries although, in truth, the best quality CONTEMPORARY kitchens usually hail from Germany. Obviously, these kinds of kitchens particularly suit modern houses, but it is also quite common, and extremely in vogue, to juxtapose a very sharp CONTEMPORARY kitchen with the period features that you might find in an older property.
